Venturing on the path of self-discovery and growth is often a transformative journey, and for women, attending group counseling can be a particularly powerful way to find help and healing. But what is group counseling, and what can you expect when you join a group?
At its core, group counseling at Her Time Therapy involves coming together in a safe, inviting online space where you join with other women who share similar life experiences. Women coming together with the guidance of a licensed therapist produces a collective space where support, connection, and understanding are fostered.
How It Works
Our groups are conducted online via a telehealth video platform that is HIPPA secure, where you’ll join other group members and therapist facilitators. When you sign up for a group, a therapist will connect with you one-on-one for a short consultation call to ensure the group and group format is right for you. During this call, you're free to ask questions, share concerns, and explore if group or individual therapy is right for you.
Before the group starts, you’ll be sent a meeting invitation via email -- one click and you're in! Before and during the start of the first meeting, the therapist group leader or co-leader will help make sure everyone is set up properly for a successful first session.
The First Session of Online Group Counseling
During the first session, you can expect the following:
A warm welcome
Introductions and opportunity to get to know your fellow members in a comfortable, authentic way
Review of group “norms” (guidelines)
At the end of session, you'll walk away feeling more connected and less alone in what you're struggling with
Continuing the Online Group Counseling Journey
Group therapy typically occurs on a weekly basis for 6-8 weeks if centered on a specific topic, or on an ongoing basis if it is a processing or support group. As the weeks of your group progress, you'll continue to share your experiences, offer a listening ear to others, and learn ways to face the challenges of life. Joining a group offers a special opportunity to engage in discussions with other people that go beyond small-talk, reaching that "under the surface" place of connection that helps you to build resiliency.
Closing the Chapter
The final group session marks a significant moment: the closing of you and your group members' time together. You may take time to reflect, celebrate your growth, and say some final words. Though this chapter may close, the story of the impact you've made on each other's lives during your time in the group is an evolving narrative, with many meaningful chapters yet to be written.
