Hello!

I’m Theresa Fagundes (she/her), Graduate Student Intern Therapist, providing online counseling for women throughout Colorado. With a background in nursing and a deep love for creativity and connection, I bring a holistic and compassionate approach to healing.

My passion lies in supporting individuals who are navigating life transitions, trauma, anxiety, and questions of identity and self-worth. I often incorporate mindfulness, expressive arts, and somatic awareness into sessions to help clients access their inner wisdom and feel more grounded in themselves.

I believe that healing happens in the context of safety and relationship. My goal is to co-create a space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered to reconnect with your needs, develop self-trust, and move forward with authenticity.

My Approach to Therapy

I believe our early life experiences shape how we see ourselves and the world—and that through self-compassion, awareness, and an acknowledgment of our own strengths, we can rewrite those narratives and reclaim who we are at our core. Clinically, my work blends Adlerian theory and expressive arts therapy, emphasizing both insight and creative exploration.

In our sessions, you will experience a mix of curiosity, quiet reflection, and encouragement to connect to our body and to nature in safe, creative ways. I strive to create a space where you can feel seen and supported as you reconnect with your body, your needs, and your voice. I see therapy not as fixing, but as remembering—who you are, what you feel, and what matters most.

My Ideal Client

I feel especially called to work with individuals who are ready to reconnect with parts of themselves that have been quieted, shamed, or forgotten. Many of my clients come in carrying the weight of trauma, anxiety, or the long-held belief that their needs are “too much.” I love working with those who are deeply feeling, creative, or caregiving in nature, especially women and LGBTQ2S+ individuals, who are seeking safety, clarity, and a sense of wholeness.

Whether you’re navigating grief, burnout, or a loss of identity, or simply longing to feel more like yourself again, I’m here to support your process. Together, we’ll create space for self-trust, creative expression, and new ways of relating to your story, with compassion and care.

The Concerns I Specialize in Treating

Sexual Assault and Trauma Counseling

As someone who has worked as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) and in emergency care, I know how deeply trauma can impact the body, mind, and spirit. Surviving sexual assault or other trauma often leaves you carrying shame, fear, and difficulty trusting yourself or others. My role is to create a safe, compassionate space where you can begin to release self-blame, reconnect with your body, and rediscover your inner strength. I use trauma-informed counseling, expressive arts, and mindfulness to support survivors in moving from simply surviving to truly healing.

Supporting Medical Professionals Experiencing Vicarious Trauma & Compassion Fatigue

As a nurse with years of experience in the emergency department, I’ve seen firsthand the toll that constant exposure to crisis, pain, and loss can take. If you’re a medical professional or healer, you may be struggling with burnout, compassion fatigue, or the weight of vicarious trauma. I understand how exhausting it feels to always give to others while neglecting your own needs. In therapy, I help you process those experiences, reconnect with your sense of purpose, and create healthy ways to care for yourself while still caring for others.

Religious Trauma Counseling

I work with individuals who are healing from religious trauma—especially those who have felt silenced, shamed, or rejected by their faith community. Leaving or questioning your faith can bring confusion, guilt, or even fear about who you are without those beliefs. For women and LGBTQ2S+ individuals, the pain is often compounded by harmful messages about identity and worth. My goal is to offer a supportive space where you can explore those wounds, challenge oppressive narratives, and begin to reclaim your voice, your truth, and your sense of belonging.

Cultural & Identity Struggles

As a member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians, I bring personal understanding of how cultural disconnection and systemic barriers can affect mental health. If you are navigating cultural identity, racial trauma, or questions of belonging, you may feel invisible, pressured to conform, or uncertain about where you fit. In therapy, I support you in exploring your identity, honoring your story, and finding strength in who you are. Together, we can create space for you to feel seen, valued, and connected to your authentic self.

Relationship Issues & Divorce Counseling

Relationships can bring both joy and heartbreak. If you are struggling with conflict, separation, breakup, or divorce, you may feel grief, anger, or a loss of who you are. I help clients process those painful emotions, set healthy boundaries, and rediscover their sense of worth outside of the relationship. My goal is to walk with you as you move through heartbreak toward healing—so you can feel grounded, confident, and ready to step into the next chapter of your life with clarity and strength.

My Story

I was born in Oregon and have always felt most at home in wild, green spaces. My family moved to Kentucky when I was young, but I never lost that pull toward the mountains. After becoming a nurse, I eventually found my way to a small town in rural Colorado where I’ve lived for the past nine years—close to alpine trails, wildflowers, and the kind of quiet that helps me come back to myself.

My work in healthcare started in the emergency room in 2012 (an RN since 2008), and later I worked for 3 years as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. Being with people in those raw, high-stakes moments taught me so much about pain, resilience, and the importance of feeling safe and seen. Over time, I realized what I was most drawn to wasn’t just crisis care, but the deeper work of healing, especially after learning what immense impact childhood trauma had on health and well-being.

That’s what led me to pursue counseling. I wanted to show up for people in a different way: with more time, more depth, and more focus on the emotional layers we carry. I’m now combining my nursing experience with expressive arts, somatic work, and trauma-informed counseling. Nature is still one of my greatest teachers, and I often bring that into the therapy space when it fits—whether through metaphor, grounding, or simply honoring the cycles we’re all a part of. When I’m not studying or in session, I’m probably running in the alpine, throwing pottery, painting, or spending time with my old pit bull, Hammy, and my houseplants.
