My Approach to Therapy
It’s my belief that humans are incredibly resilient and sometimes just need a little help to regroup. I also believe that negative situations can be used as a catalyst for change, growth, and self-improvement. By deepening the mind, body, and spirit connection, there is greater potential for growth, healing, and a higher quality of life. We as humans are incredibly resilient, and sometimes we just need a little help reconnecting with our inner knowing.
I am client-centered and utilize ketamine-assisted therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Emotion Focused Therapies (EFT). Additionally, as a 200-hour yoga certified instructor, I offer a combination of therapies like breath work and somatic movement with an emphasis on the mind-body connection. We can work together to achieve your goals and find peace.
My Ideal Client
I most enjoy working with adults struggling to improve their sense of belonging and connectedness in romantic relationships, family dynamics, friendships, or even co-workers. I also work with those struggling with chronic or terminal illness, anxiety, trauma, and grief.
I specialize in change and transition throughout life, and I love teaching my clients how to find coping strategies. Ask yourself: Are you suffering from relationship issues? Are you depressed and struggling from a breakup or divorce? Have you had a series of emotionally abusive relationships? Are you grieving the loss of a relationship ending? If your answer to any of these is "yes," I'm excited to walk the path toward healing with you!
The Concerns I Specialize in Treating
Counseling for Relationship Issues
Navigating relationships can be one of the most challenging aspects of mental health, but it is also one of the most important to achieving overall happiness. You might be experiencing conflict, feeling disconnected, or struggling with codependency or communication issues. If so, I am here to help you work through these challenges, improve your sense of belonging, and enhance your connections with others. By exploring underlying patterns and dynamics, we can develop strategies to foster healthier, more fulfilling relationships. Through a compassionate, client-centered approach to addressing relationship issues, I aim to support you in creating the meaningful connections.
Counseling for Chronic or Terminal Illness
Living with a chronic or terminal illness presents unique emotional and psychological challenges that can profoundly affect your quality of life. You may be grappling with feelings of fear, sadness, or isolation and struggling to find a sense of normalcy or meaning in your life. My approach integrates therapeutic techniques, such as existential therapy, to help you cope with stress caused by adjustment or transition and weather the emotional toll by finding meaning. Together, we will work on building resilience, finding meaning, and enhancing your emotional well-being. My goal is to provide a supportive space where you can explore your feelings, gain strength, and navigate your journey with dignity and compassion.
Counseling for Grief and Loss
The grief we feel after (and sometimes before) the loss of someone we love can be some of the most painful experiences we ever endure. Whether you are grieving due to the loss of a loved one, the end of a relationship or other significant life changes, grief counseling can be critical to healing and not getting "stuck" or developing complex bereavement. Loss, including disenfranchised losses that feel unacknowledged or invalidated by social norms, can leave you feeling overwhelmed and unsure of how to move forward. I specialize in helping individuals process their grief, understand their emotions, and find a path toward healing. By creating a safe and non-judgmental environment, I provide the support needed to navigate the complexities of loss. Together, we can work towards finding peace and resilience amidst the pain.
Counseling for Anxiety
Anxiety can manifest in various ways, from persistent worry and fear to physical symptoms that interfere with daily life. It can be debilitating and impact your ability to function and enjoy life. I am dedicated to helping you understand the roots of your anxiety and develop effective coping strategies. Utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and other therapeutic approaches, we will work to reduce your anxiety and improve your overall sense of well-being. My aim is to empower you with tools and techniques to manage stress and regain control over your life.
Counseling for Trauma and PTSD
Experiencing trauma can leave lasting emotional and psychological scars that affect every aspect of your life. Whether you have endured a single traumatic event or prolonged exposure to traumatic situations and are suffering from complex PTSD, healing is possible. My approach to trauma therapy is grounded in creating a safe and supportive environment where you can process your experiences at your own pace. Together, we can build resilience, reclaim your sense of safety, and move towards a healthier, more empowered future.
My Story
I am originally from New Jersey, and I have always loved working with people! Before becoming a psychotherapist, I worked in education for twenty years and have experience supporting teachers, adolescents, administrators, and parents. In my work as a teacher, I often found myself incorporating social-emotional learning into health and fitness curriculums, which gave me a taste of what it would be like to be a counselor. I have always wanted to be a therapist, and Covid gave me the guts to follow my heart in this endeavor and gain the skills needed to serve people in a different way. I am very grateful to be rerouted to a career that is beyond rewarding and I am honored to get the opportunity to work with my clients individually on a much deeper level.
My main hobby outside of therapy is outdoor sports. When possible, I prefer to experience life on two wheels, skis, or a surfboard. One fun fact about me is that I once biked from Canada to Mexico—but it was all downhill!
