Hello!

I'm Cassidy Summey (she/her), a Clinical Mental Health Graduate Student Intern. Do you feel like you have lost touch with who you are in an effort to support everyone around you? Are you looking to reconnect with yourself, or maybe connect with a sense of self that you never had a chance to develop? I know how impossible it can feel to ask for support when you’re used to handling things on your own and keeping your struggles to yourself. I want you to know you do not have to walk alone in this life and that I am here to join you on your journey.

My Approach to Therapy

At the center of my therapeutic approach is warmth, patience, and compassion. I recognize that every person’s story is unique, shaped by experiences that have influenced who they are today. Because of this, I take the time to get to know you and understand your story so that our work together can be tailored to your individual needs and goals. I strive to create a safe space where you can express your thoughts and emotions in your own time and at your own pace.

I work through a trauma-informed lens and incorporate evidence-based approaches, including Psychodynamic Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to help you better understand your story, develop meaningful coping skills, and move toward the life you want to live.

The Concerns I Specialize in Treating

Counseling for Anxiety

Anxiety can show up in many different ways. Maybe you overthink every decision, worry about disappointing others, fear making a mistake, or feel like you constantly have to hold everything together. I use ACT-based strategies to help you recognize anxiety when it shows up, make space for difficult emotions, and learn to navigate the emotional storm without allowing anxiety to sweep you away.

Counseling for Depression

You may still be checking all of the boxes, showing up for work and caring for the people in your life, all the while internally feeling numb or like you're running on empty. I can help you slow down and explore what may be underneath that heaviness, develop a greater compassion for what you're experiencing, and identify meaningful steps toward reconnecting with yourself and the life you want to live.

Counseling for Life Transitions

Transitions are a natural part of life, but that doesn't mean they are always easy or welcome. Whether you are becoming a new parent, starting a new career, navigating a major change in your relationships, or re-evaluating your values and priorities, you may find yourself questioning what comes next. I can provide a compassionate, supportive space to help you process the complex emotions that come with change.

My Story

I grew up in Colorado Springs in a home filled with conflict and uncertainty. As a child I thought life was that way for everyone. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I realized the impact my early childhood experiences had on how I navigated my thoughts and emotions. I had become a hyper-independent woman, experiencing high anxiety and who placed the needs of everyone else before her own. When my counselor asked me for the first time “What do YOU need now?” I stared at them blankly as if I had never honestly answered that question in my life. After years of self-exploration, self-compassion, and healing, I have developed a strong desire to walk alongside others and support them on their own path of self-discovery and healing.

Outside of therapy, I am an avid reader and tend to gravitate towards fiction depicting strong female protagonists (Jane Eyre for the win! And did you know a new ACOTAR book is coming out in October 2026?). I also find an incredible peace in woodworking and love to make pens from wood scraps and give them as Christmas gifts to unsuspecting people in my life.
