Hello!
I'm Laura Karns, MA LSC LPCC (she/her) and I'm a licensed school counselor and licensed professional clinical counselor candidate serving clients in Colorado.
I believe that our journeys take us to a myriad of places, each creating a story that intricately weaves the web of our lives. Sometimes weaving through these stories illuminates shadows we find difficult to face. Sometimes our inner mind casts a story that limits our true potential and casts doubt in the place of strength.
As a therapist, it is my job to partner with you as we traverse through stuck points to illuminate your keys to self-empowerment, self-efficacy, and self-healing. My goal for each of my clients is to act as a guide on the journey to wholeness and our true authentic selves.

My Story
Healing and empowerment are two themes that define my life. I experienced moments of darkness as a young woman in college and later in my twenties. It was a counselor who helped me guide me from the abyss that consumed my mind. She helped me to remember who I was. The feeling therapy provided to me was so encapsulating; it was a gift of hope. Hope that I could heal, hope that I could find happiness again, hope that I could look in the mirror and love who was looking back at me. With this personal experience benefiting from therapy, I set off to get a counseling degree so that I may also help others in their journeys to find their inner power and hope.
A native of Michigan, I graduated with my M.A. from Michigan State University in 2009 with a dual license for both School and Community Counseling. I have lived in Colorado for over a decade now. Throughout my experiences, I have worked in clinical settings and spent time as a substance abuse counselor and as a school counselor. The populations I've enjoyed working with include . . . I have also engaged in clinical work supporting the LGBTQ+ community over the past decade. Additionally, I have a background working with women in the areas of physical and sexual abuse and trauma, eating disorders, body dysmorphia, depression, and anxiety disorders. I have worked with children and adolescents I want to provide clients the opportunity to grow and heal, moving along the journey to wholeness and empowerment.
My Framework:
My three biggest tenants are practicing multicultural diversity and inclusion, non-judgment, and unconditional positive regard. I use a trauma-informed approach and I practice cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy and tailor my style to meet the client’s needs. Life is a complex journey that we shouldn’t have to do alone. Sometimes we simply have to remember, “I am worthy, I am worth it!” Whether it is to help shift a perspective, heal a past trauma, or learn to self-love, I am excited to begin this journey with you.
